Smoke Gets In Your Weisse

This beer managed to win the Specials category! I'm actually pretty stoked I managed to win something this year, given the sheer number of entries. That being said, I am really pleased with this Weisse. I still have a keg of it left, and will probably be rebrewing soon - this time, instead of doing a stepped pitching, I'll be pitching it into the current Weisse to see if we get the same results.

It was a fun day as always, and for some reason Sylvia and I didn't get as drunk as we previously did. Now for the usual grouses! I did get some rather odd comments in the score sheets, unfortunately. Like one judge suggested increasing mash temp so that the beer wouldn't be as sweet ... !! And as again, the keg competition wasn't too reflective I felt. Nick entered an unblended lambic which I felt was really good for its age. I'd have preferred it to be more robust in the sourness department though, so it'll probably come round nicely if it were aged for another year.

You know something's afoot, if a row ensues when you're told you can't serve your beer yet. :p

Also, John's hand pump for his Real Ale got quite a lot of attention:
