Typhoon Haiyan ravaged the Philippines on 8 November, resulting in a massive humanitarian crisis. I'm appealing to everyone to please contribute in any way you can. My home help is among those whose homes were affected. Thankfully her family is safe and we're doing all we can do help financially, but countless other people are also affected and are yet unreached by international aid. That $3 you save from eating a simple meal instead of fast food could mean a night of shelter and candlelight for a family. Here are some ways you can help, by way of monetary donations:
The Philippine Red Cross has mobilized teams on the ground to help with rescue and relief operations
The World Food Program sends high energy biscuits and helps with their food supplies
World Vision is providing food, water and shelter
There are also other fundraisers going on, and very often these are organised by the very people whom we need to help.
"Help Haiyan victims of Cuartero, Capiz" offers donations directly to the residents of this small township, where my home help comes from. I have corresponded directly with the organiser, who will be extending help in person to the community.
